Beth and Rose explore Four Hills Open Space

Joe and I recently moved to Four Hills in the Southeast section of Albuquerque.  There are many trails in the open space area, and with Joe nursing his foot after some serious surgery, Beth and I decided to do some exploring.

Rose and Beth at the entrance of the Four Hills Open Space area

Immediately we are met by two trails we decide to take the one on the right.
We found out that we returned on the left trail.
(You know what they say..when you come to a fork in the road....take it!)

Blackfoot Daisies

A view of Albuquerque airport and Kirtland AFB and the Sandia National Labs

Scarlet Hedgehogs

There were lots a great boulders along the trail for bouldering

A well hidden water tank...Tijeras Canyon in the distance where I-40 heads east

A nice bench to sit down and look at the view or the sunset!

This trail overlooks some of the larger and extremely expensive homes of Four Hills

That clump of trees appears to be the golf course on the AF Base

Scarlet Hedgehog

Claret Cup Cactus

There were a lot of wildflowers and blooming cactus

This cactus found an odd place to set up residency

These are Hidden Flowers

Closeup of the tiny flowers that like to remain hidden

Looking up at the top of the hill we are circumnavigating

After living in Europe for 5 years, Beth is just happy to be home again in the Great Southwest!

The actual "Four Hills area" is off limits to the public.  There is a road and fence area to keep this part of Kirtland AF Base secure

Rose and Beth--just happy to be together again!

Now this is a tiny flower

Wallflowers

A Yucca and its bloom

Definitely some kind of animal...I will leave it up to your imaginations

Selfie!

Cool looking clouds in the sky

Four Hills Golf Course--looks like an oasis in the desert!

That rock looks so sad...but you would be to if you had no body

The northern edge of our hike

We see a lot more trails below us...probably for off road bicycles

A potential home for some critter

Close up view

Cool rock

Cool Tree

Scorpion weed

Definitely something living here...or at least here is its bathroom

Vein of rocks within a boulder

Howdy!

Another indication of something living here

Newton Isaac, Beth's traveling pet

The return trail

One of the testing facilities on Sandia Laboratories

Scarlet Hedgehog Cactus

Beth playing hide-and-seek among the boulders

OUCH!!

Dakota Vervain (Verbena)

That's a nice Scarlet Hedgehog
Agave

A very nice bench to take a rest  or view the scenery at the end of the trail

This one had a marker--Lillian must have loved this hike!

SO DID WE!

HAPPY TRAILS!
